A Georgia resident won a jackpot worth $15.2 million last month playing Jumbo Bucks LOTTO. They matched all six winning numbers of 4, 19, 25, 27, 29 and 46.
The drawing took place on July 10, with the jackpot hitting for the first time since Feb. 24, 2022. The 2022 jackpot hit for an estimated $11.7 million.
Georgia Lottery proceeds eclipse $1.5 billion in FY 2023
The wrapping up of Fiscal Year 2023 at the end of June brought a record $1.5 billion in Georgia Lottery proceeds. That money goes to the state Treasury’s Lottery for Education Account, which helps fund individual programs like Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Pre-K Program.
Since forming in 1993, the Georgia Lottery has raised more than $26.8 billion for education, awarding more than 2.1 million students scholarships and helping more than 2 million 4-year-olds receive a prekindergarten education.
A 1-in-10 million shot
The Jumbo Bucks LOTTO is Georgia’s classic version of a traditional lottery draw game, where players can select six numbers (from 1 through 47). Each ticket allows for anywhere from one to five plays, costing just $1 each, with another optional $1 Ca$h Match for a chance to win $500 instantly.
According to the Georgia Lottery, the odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 10.7 million. These odds are long but much better than Powerball (1 in 292.2 million) and Mega Millions (1 in 302.6 million).
Prizes start with three matched numbers and grow accordingly.
- Match 3 numbers to win $5 (1-in-50 odds)
- Match 4 numbers to win $50 (1-in-873 odds)
- Match 5 numbers to win $500 (1-in-43,649 odds)
- Match all 6 numbers to win the jackpot: (1-in-10,737,573 odds)
Drawings occur twice a week, every Monday and Thursday at 11 p.m. Ticket sales stop at 10:45 p.m. before the drawing. GALottery.com publishes the winning numbers daily, and winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes.
Jumbo Bucks LOTTO jackpots exceed $100 million
The July 10 drawing paid out 4,989 winners. More than 94% of them won $5, while 2,854 more won $50. Just five players won $500.
Nine drawings took place during July, producing 38 winners at the $500 prize level for the month. No draw had more than eight winners at that prize tier. Since the previous jackpot hit in 2022, only two drawings have produced double-digit $500 winners. Both were this year, March 13 and May 11.
By the nature of this payout structure, Jumbo Bucks LOTTO will yield mostly losing tickets and small payouts while quickly growing the jackpot.
Once the jackpot hits, it resets at $1 million. Six drawings have taken place since July 10, and the jackpot has risen to an estimated $1.6 million.
Since the first drawing on Feb. 23, 2015, Jumbo Bucks LOTTO has seen 17 jackpot winners, totaling $100.2 million in grand prizes.
